Cheaper by the dozen is the story of Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate Baker (Bonnie Hunt) who are raising their 12 children in a small town. Both the parents have compromised their careers. Tom who is a coach of local football team receives a letter from his teammate offering him his dream job, to be a coach of Lincoln University while Kate who is a retired journalist gets to know that her parenting memoir is about to get published. Both have compromised their careers to raise 12 children. The family is now moving to a new and bigger city in order to become “happier and stronger family”. Now, the Kate departs for a book tour leaving Tom at home to handle kids. Children being already unhappy on transfer make the house a havoc at Kate’s back. Will Bakers be able to attain stability between work time for one another?
The movie is a very interesting lighthearted family comedy. The script is slightly weak, lazy and PG rated a bit. You will find that elder sister can bring her boyfriend to sleep with her and it won’t bother to parents. I was SHOCKED! And particularly whenever they are asked how come they have 12 children? Tom always gives this lame reply “I couldn’t keep her off me.” although Steve Martin has carried the character of Tom very well. He is a very loving and adoring father and husband. He has a inspiring character who can even sacrifice his ambitions for family
This movie is a mixture of emotions. Some scenes will make you cry while the others will make you laugh hard. It will take you to a journey of “aww” and “eeww”. The scene where the pet frog dies, literally made me cry and then there was another scene where when one of the child falls and slips on the barf of other child and I found myself laughing hard even the popcorns dropped out of my hand.
