Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), is visited by her mother’s ghost who warns her, “Beware of Crimson Peak.” Fourteen years later, Edith fell in love with Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston), an English baronet who has come to the United States to seek investors for his clay-mining invention. Edith’s father who was a wealthy American businessman, Carter Cushing (Jim Beaver), disapproved their relationship but was later brutally murdered. Edith and Thomas marry and return to England. They arrive at Allerdale Hall, the Sharpes’ dilapidated mansion, which sits atop red clay mine and was called as “Crimson Peak”. While staying in the mansion, Edith was continuously visited by gruesome ghost and growing weak and coughing blood. While roaming around the mansion, she found pieces of clues as to why this was happening with her and found the secrets Thomas and her sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain) was hiding from her. Edith’s childhood friend, Dr. Alan McMichael (Charlie Hunnam), also found the sibling’s secret and immediately flew back to England from United Stated to save Edith from these monsters.
Crimson Peak is a fascinating conundrum of a movie. It is a mix of mystery, horror and love; making the movie thrilling to watch till the end. At the first plot, I found it scary and wanted to cease from watching but it hey the sun is up and have not heard of ghost seen during daytime! Nothing can harm me anyway! Hahahah… I was not really a fan of horror movies but I definitely did not regret watching it as this is really good! The plot and costumes are from the Gothic Era thus adding additional creepy effects in the movie. Main cast’s, Tom & Mia, physical attributes are perfect for the character. They themselves were grooms to be spooky even in ordinary scene. The character of Edith shows us how unconditional love can be. Indeed, love conquers all and true love waits. Greediness shown by Lucille & Tom dig their graves by their own teeth. They are already rich still wanted to have more but not in a truthful way and the movie definitely shown were this wicked deed can lead us. Even ghost in the movie did not find peace and wanted to take revenge. Just imagine that! It is not scary? Well better be careful on how you deal with others and always treat them will kindness. Remember, kindness is the language that even deaf can hear and blind can see. Maybe it can be felt my ghost too… Cheers!
