The story is about a father and son clownfish, Marlin and Nemo, living in the Great Barrier Reef. Marlin’s wife Coral was viciously attacked by a barracuda along with Nemo’s siblings when they were just eggs. This prompted Marlin to be overly protective of his only surviving son, Nemo, and doubting his capacity to defend himself. Their relationship was tested when Nemo defies his dad during their first day of school’s fieldtrip. Nemo went beyond the drop off – the place where his mom was attacked and had died – and touched the bottom of a nearby boat. As Nemo swims back to the drop off, he was captured, netted up and eventually ended up in a dentist’s office. Marlin now sets off in an epic quest across the ocean to rescue Nemo with the help of a forgetful, friendly fish named Dory.
This is definitely one of the best Disney/ Pixar film made, not to mention highly rated. It was widely accepted by the viewers because of its storyline, entertaining dialogues, stunning animation and moral lesson. One of the memorable characters is Dory, a Pacific Regal Blue Tang. Her character suffers from short-term memory loss and is a bit silly. Most of the funny scenes were dialogues from her and how Marlin and her unintentionally get into terrifying and sometimes life-threatening situations. Another hilarious scene was when they met 3 vegetarian sharks and even taking oaths about not eating fish – as they say “fish are friends, not food” – but Marlin and Dory were eventually hunted down after one of the sharks, Bruce, has smelled Dory’s blood and his instincts kicked in temporarily. It’s also funny how gossip – and how quickly it spreads – is also included in the story. Marlin has told a group of surfer-like turtles his quest on finding and rescuing his son and the story spread to other species and eventually reaching Nemo in the dentist’s office. The story captivated the hearts of the viewers especially on how a father will do everything to get his son back while conquering his fear of the ocean. A great lesson for the kids as well – that defying parents often leads to being in trouble and that parents just wants the best for their children and want no harm to happen to them. There were almost no negative reviews about the film as it is a story centered on values and relationship each family may relate to.
