The Karate Kid is the story of 12 year old boy Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) who has recently moved to China with his divorced mother. Here, in this strange land he finds himself bullied and not knowing much about karate to defend himself from Cheng, a bully at school who learns about Dre’s crush on pretty and gorgeous classmate Mei Yeng. Mei Yeng is a violinist and both falls in love despite the cultural difference among them. This makes Cheng more furious resulting in more bully and humiliation to Dre. But Dre is lucky and hits upon a friend Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who is a master of kung-fu and martial arts and ready to teach him self- defense wishing that Dre might be able to beat Cheng during open kung-fu tournament meanwhile winning the heart of Mei Yeng. Curiosity begins that will Dre who knows nothing about karate will be able to defeat Cheng and wins the heart of Mei Yeng?
The movie is a classic remake of Karate kid 1984 and is a lovely and elegant remake. The scenery of film is classic showing beautiful China, magnificent mountains and of course splendor Great Wall of China. These locations will enhance your visual interest and will engage you more in characters of film. This film is basically the story of friendship between young or old or more specifically between West and East. Jaden has proved himself as in-born natural actor. How amazingly he carried the role of a furious teen, a realistic son or a charming lover. He NAILED IT!! Proving that he carries the same charm and chic as that of Will’s. Let’s not forget to discuss the amazing macho fighter Jackie Chen. Here in movie you will see him cooling down his typical cheerfulness while keeping his card hidden well. He has shown awesome dramatic skills and is in his form at best.
I think the run time for movie is too long. 2hrs and 30 min is a lot for movies like these. The scenes showing the training of Dre are too long. Along with a scene in which Mei’s parent disapproves Dre because he can’t speak Chinese. What sort of parents having world class musical fame disapprove with such a lame reason. They could have been edited but still there are plenty of scenes in film that you will find yourself hooting and shouting out with your kids. An amazing watch to rebond with your kids!!
The movie is as a whole amazing with tension and climax well-handled. Amazing development of characters and use of scoreboard to keep tension throughout makes it an amazing watch and perfect picture to enjoy with your kids.
