the-shiningThis movie borrows from the novel ‘The shining’. It basically spins around a story of a family that relocated in search for greener pastures. Jack Nicholson has moved to Overlook Hotel to apply for a job as a warden. The hotel has been built on a graveside. Brady Nelson his boss warns him of impeding danger. The same applies to his son Danny Lloyd. What he fails to understand is that the former caretaker was possessed by the demons and ended up killing his family. Scatman Crothers a cook in the hotel cautions Danny from visiting room 237. He states that the room appears shiny but not everything in the room is as good as it looks. Even after such warnings, Danny visits the room but is attacked leaving his arm in bruises. Jack on the other hand is delusional and has terrible nightmares of what is going to transpire soon. He is possessed by ghosts and is about to hit his wife but Shelley Duvall overpowers him. He then goes for his son Danny who runs out into the labyrinth. Shelley and Danny escape and Jack is left to die on his own.
The movie has fascinating scenes are absolutely laughable. In the hotel Jack puts on a huge smile when he goes after his wife with an axe. This part is laughable and also breeds scary thoughts. It can be termed to instill nostalgic feelings. It’s laughable how Jack refers to his wife and child as ‘little pigs’. Jack’s face is amusing including the grins and facial expressions he shows. When Jack puts his face between the torn doors he looks exactly like Johnny and this is side-splitting. In addition the hotel looks well polished and beautiful.
There are scary scenes in the movie too. In an attempt to escape Shelley hides on a wall post. She is terrified and holds a knife. Jack on the other hand breaks down the door and tries to find his way in. Shelley uses the sharp knife to cut his husband’s hand leaving us in a state of total dismay. Danny’s premonitions are a bit scary. Jack turns out to be a violent who instead of protecting his family longs for their blood.
The shining is a great piece of movie to watch.
