While you were sleeping is a classic old fashioned romantic movie which tells the story of a lonely girl Lucy Eleanor (Sandra Bullock) who works as a train collector in Chicago. She has a secret crush on a very charming customer Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher) who does not even know about this. One day, she saves him from tracks of train while he was being mugged. She rushes him to hospital where a nurse overhears her saying “I was going to marry him” which makes Peter family to mistaken her as Peter’s fiancé. Lucy finds it difficult to tell the truth to caring and affectionate family of Peter. Meanwhile, she finds herself get stuck in love of Peter’s younger brother Jack (Bill Pullman). Now, the question is will she be able to marry the brother whom she loves truly?
This movie is mainly shots in Chicago and is a perfect blend of classic romance, low key humor and sturdy performance. Smart script and strong performances along with the solidified supporting cast makes the movie quite charming and interesting. Lucy is self confident, shy and protective woman while Jack has a real charismatic personality which makes the perfect chemistry between the two depicting that the charm is more important than enthusiasm. Also, there are few short comings in the script. Especially at the scene where Peter is unconscious and thrown onto tracks, she says such a dumb dialogue “Mister, there’s a train coming, and it’s fast!” How come anybody be such goof and can think such ridiculously when the person next to you is not in the state of consciousness. Movie appears to be quite predictable at the start but as you move forward you begin to enjoy the predictability. Because it’s a good hearted and warm classic modern fairy tale. Lucy’s performance will make you believe once again in fairy tales. Despite of all the shortcomings in script and some selfish behavior you will feel the spirit of classic romantic comedy and modern fairy tale and will make you astonish that how much you are enjoying it with your family.
As a whole it is a good hearted and warm film that you will enjoy till the very last with your family.
